Westacre Nursing Home is registered to provide personal and nursing care for 50 people. Our clients are all elderly, require nursing care and have varying degrees of dementia. They are predominately privately funded but we also have some funded by the local authorities and the Primary Care Trusts.
There are 50 beds at Westacre comprising 48 single rooms and 2 shared rooms. The original building is quite old, having formerly been a grand house in one of the finest areas of Winchester, with two modern extensions. This creates an atmospheric, homely and comfortable environment with a delightful mix of antique furniture, an abundance of pictures and warm, inviting rooms – home from home. All rooms have ensuite toilet and washbasin facilities. Rooms vary in size and décor. Residents and their families are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing in personal items from home.
There are several lounges in the home where many of our residents tend to congregate in the day especially to participate in the various activities and entertainments that are on offer. There is also a large dining area. All doors are key pad locked and all stairwells are protected by key pad locks or security gates to maintain the safety of our residents. There is a bright spacious conservatory overlooking a well-kept, secure garden with St Catherines' Hill on the near horizon.
Mealtimes are an important time for most of us and we do our best to ensure that this continues at Westacre. The team in the kitchen, led by our wonderful chef, provide varied, nutritious meals and are able to cater for any type of diet including for those who may have swallowing difficulties. We regularly provide birthday meals for our residents and families are especially encouraged to visit at these times. The kitchen team have retained a level 5 award from the environmental health team for 2 consecutive years.
