The occupational therapy unit at Kitnocks House Specialist Nursing Home works closely with the multi-disciplinary team in a holistic approach to assess and support the functional and cognitive status of the residents with Functional and Organic diagnoses. Primarily, emphasis is placed on recovery, functionality and health promotion.
The Occupational Therapists (OT) and Activity Coordinators work with residents in order to achieve recovery in neurological, motor, functional areas and quality of life. The aim of the OT programs is to help each resident reach their maximum level of independence in all areas of daily life, including personal independence, social, recreational and leisure pursuits.
The Occupational Therapists use standardised assessment tools such as MOHOST (Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool), ACIS (Assessment of Communication & Integration skills) and AMPS (Assessment of Motor and Process skills) to evaluate clients with functional and organic mental illness.
Kitnocks House has a no smoking policy within the House but does have a designated covered and heated smoking area in the garden.
A pre-admission assessment will be carried out to assess the suitability of the match between the resident's needs and the services and facilities of the home.
The suitability of the admission will be discussed with the resident, and if appropriate and with permission, the resident's representative(s).
Emergency admissions will be accepted only in exceptional circumstances, where the health or safety of the resident is under threat, and normally only through a professional referrer such as Social Services. In this event, the suitability of the proposed resident will be discussed with the professional referrer to ensure that the needs match the services offered, and the normal pre-admission assessment will be carried out within 48 hours of admission.
Male and female residents have separate areas but may come together during therapeutic or social activities. All accommodation is single rooms and some with ensuite facilities. There are communal areas such as lounges and dinning areas.
The resident and their family will be involved in all of the decisions about their care and all efforts will be made to follow their requests. They will be given a named nurse who will be responsible for their care and who will support them and their family during their stay at Kitnocks House Specialist Nursing Home.
